ABP Barry - Central Control System
One the original control stations. These remain functional if the Gwentec system is isolated
One of the Remote IO stations that are used to interface with the original controls and the new central control station
Central control desk that also has CCTV camera feeds installed next to the Gwentec system
Close up of the powered up system. Dual HMIs allow the operator to control each leaf of the gates independently so that the controls are familiar to experienced operators
Gwentec were asked to install a central control system to allow an operator to operate the lock gates from a central control station
rather than an operator walking to each induvial control station as was done in the past which was time consuming
The system employed 4 remote IO stations that were connected over a fibre optic link to the central control station
The system retained the ability to locally operate induvial control systems as was done in the past for flexibility and redundancy
Profisafe was used to interface with existing emergency stop circuits which makes the new system compliant with modern safety standards
without compromising the safety of the original install
The central Hut that Gwentec supplied, the building was installed in a central location between the 4 lock gates. This photo was taken before the steps were installed by ABP.

This project included a few mock-up’s of displays and desks before a standing, dual HMI solution was chosen. Sketchup was used to quickly prototype ideas
